Week 9: The European Moment

Theme:  Fear of change

As western culture started to expand over to the east, the Chinese and the Japanese in particular became more careful. China took a more defensive route in choosing a method of modernization, as did Japan after their period of isolation. They did so in fear of loosing their culture and becoming fully westernized.  They were careful in choosing what western customs they should adapt to. In a similar yet not quite similar situation, Kim Jong Un dictator of North Korea, in a sense is also choosing which customs to adapt to. His methods are by, killing people who watch South Korean media, or own a bible.
